The series is complete in 16 volumes, but forthcoming volumes, including a Global Index with new species, and an Illustrated Checklist, will round out the reference. English, French, German, Spanish, and Latin names are given for each species. Each species is illustrated on a color plate, including all significant sexual and subspecific differences, and high quality color photographs depict many aspects of the birds' life and behavior.
